From his time as a student in Brent, 30 years as a Harrow resident, and extensive engagement with local councillors and community organisations Navin has developed a thorough knowledge of the Brent and Harrow areas.

He understands the aspirations and issues of the people who live in Brent and Harrow and is totally committed to the area.

When it came to putting himself forward to fight a seat for Labour in the GLA election Brent and Harrow was Navin's one and only

choice.

 

Local Government Experience

·        Leader of Harrow Council 2004-2006 currently Leader of the Labour Group.

·        Councillor, Kenton East, Harrow, bordering North Brent.

·        Expertise in Planning, Housing and Community Cohesion

·        London Councils Leader’s Committee, Crime & Safety and  Poverty  Panels.

·        Member of the West London Alliance for 4 years working actively with othe West London Borough Leaders on strategic issues such as the London Olympics, Tourism and Mayor’s London Plan.

 

 

 

 Labour Party Experience

·        Active member of the Harrow Labour Party for nearly 30years, holding all key constituency party officer positions.

·        Trade Union Member: MSF (Amicus) since 1993.

·        Member: Co-Op Party, Harrow Fabian Society.

·        GLA: members of the London Fire Planning Authority.

·        Member of the Labour Party National Panel for the Ethnic Minority Taskforce.

 

 

Wider Experience

·        Member of Harrow Police Community Consultative Group.

·        Harrow Anti-Racist Alliance: Founder Member (1990), Trustee.

·        Executive Member: Council for Racial Equality.

·        Wishram: Founder Member (1990) – Group addressing learning difficulties issues.

·        Professional skills as an Architect & Planner with experience of dealing with major technical projects both Nationally and internationally. Specialist skills related to Conservation and Listed Building Projects working in a multi-disciplinary environment, dealing with professional bodies, local authorities and a wide range of clients.

·        Community engagement – successfully forging links with voluntary sector and community organisations in Harrow, Brent and other parts of London. Developed Harrow’s “Under one Sky” project to celebrate diversity.
